Website Design - Speed and Translations

This year we are back to improving CompoundDoc as it continues to demonstrate its superior performance capabilities.

Bill added yet more speed by moving its displays out of the CompoundDoc proper and into Python scripts. A display is a rendered view of the data the CompoundDoc holds. These can be a 'view' as seen on the front side of the website or an 'edit' as seen on the back side in the content management system.

Though it was always easy to change the configuration of a display, now it is simplicity itself. This change further reduces the stored size of each CompoundDoc and thus reduces the load on the server. Pages load even faster and hosting costs are reduced.

We added a multi-language application to Particle Measuring System's website. There are duplicate versions of the site, each with its own content management system. The translators stated they had never worked with such and easy system, thus speeding their work. Staff can switch from translation to translation with a single click and land on the same page in the new translation. This makes it easy to keep the translations in sync.
